Thank you for the invite Schenae. This is AMAZING!! I've been looking forward to this for weeks! I've been devising plans of action since chapter 5 of Richard's book. I had to move beyond tears and anger, and lack of knowledge first.

Sounds like Richard is suggesting a remedy for the housing policy.
Steven Turner
01:13:50
Would Richard advocate a federal program similar to GI Bill to provide downpayment assistance and credit? For example, if a 20% downpayment assistance is provided (silent grant), this could be an entry point to address wealth gap.

How do we reconcile the idea of housing as an appreciating asset/investment, with the idea that housing should affordable?
Marisha Morris
01:21:55
Mr. Rothstein, the best I've come up, aside from my own way to provide equity increase to a renter (so they can begin homeownership and/or investment property), I've created a template so that WE can contact our elected officials, so the can, in the instance FHA has a new "digital program" for single family homes, but my concern is they are using the previously used codes/redlining. Planning and Departments and Transportation have upcoming maps and zoning laws discussions/evaluations, it seems we should make sure those redlines and inability to get loans (or loans without additional interest points, or the stigma of "risk") are eliminated ...... as you say it's not a "civil rights act" but a violation of our constitutional rights. ........ How I can be better/or gain larger traction of this?

I appreciate Richard’s statement re Affirmative Action. And I encourage everyone to consider supporting VOTEYESonPROP16.org to bring Affirmative Action back to education, hiring and public procurement. It is on the November Ballot - Support Prop 16.

Possible solution: In the 1950s, Chinese people in LA were also included in deeds as a demographic people were prohibit to resell to. Chinese millionaires then created the Cathay bank solely to give loans to Chinese people for mortgages and small businesses creations. Current “black banks” are more focused in offering credit cards with high APRs. We need lenders to lower lending rates for minority mortgages and business loans or a gov. program to subsidize part of the interest.
Bonnie Dinka- Concerned Citizen

Here's a question, how should local governments prepare for the potential passage of Prop. 16, the repeal of Prop.209, allowing for preferences based on race and gender for hiring, education, and procurement? Could that help close housing segregation and wealth gaps?

I agree but this (Black communities) are not solely a health issue and poverty type community. there are also professionals: doctors and business owners, home owners who are retired with equity, that don’t seem to be accounted for, amenities for them are different. everything is not low income or from a deficiency stand point (the perception of it)
